Fashion in Mas
Across the Generations
An Exhibit
Featuring photographs by Jenny Baboolal
Fashion in Mas, Across the Generations, examines fashion and style’s influence on children’s carnival costume design through the work of Trinidadian – Canadian photographer Jenny Baboolal.
The exhibit juxtaposes a selection of Baboolal’s photographs with images that depict historical and contemporary fashion trends. All are represented in the carnival costumes and designs worn by the children.
Whether in Toronto, Canada, Port of Spain, Trinidad, New Kingston, Jamaica or any city where street carnivals are annual events, children are the early players in the festivals. The costumes they wear, tell intriguing stories about fashion’s influence on costume design through every generation.
